InvestigateWest is the recipient of a new $80,000 grant from Chicago-based family foundation The Reva & David Logan Foundation. The Foundation provides strategic grants to support social justice, the arts, and investigative journalism around the world.

“We believe that it will take courage, determination and great will to overcome our truly existential challenges. The destruction of our planet, redressing the imbalances between rich and poor, demonstrating respect for everyone regardless of race, creed, religion, nation, sexual orientation, or differing abilities are all issues we must urgently address in our heads, in our hearts and in our every action. Uncompromising investigative journalism, like InvestigateWest, is an essential tool to reach our goals.” –Richard Logan, President of the Board

“InvestigateWest greatly values The Reva & David Logan Foundation’s commitment to journalism,” says InvestigateWest Executive Director Allison Augustyn. “As a nonprofit, we strive to shine a light where we can have impact on and for our communities to effect change and make life better for all. We are truly honored to receive a gift from this thoughtful foundation.”

The majority of the grant is intended for general operating expenses, with $10,000 dedicated to reporting on issues impacting Indigenous communities and a further $20,000 intended as a matching grant for gifts from new donors. InvestigateWest will use the funds to expand planned reporting, including an in-depth look at the problems and solutions around child care and education access in Washington state, and the equity issues that permeate the current systems.

From The Foundation: “The Reva and David Logan Foundation will be a timely catalyst to initiate and support powerful, innovative ideas and approaches that challenge the status quo. We encourage our grantees to think radically and act positively to alter society and the world.”
