Missoula is trying an innovative program of intentional forest fires to turn overgrown forests into more open ponderosa pine stands, reducing the potential for wildfires to dump smoke into the city’s airshed. An intentional fire on Blue Mountain in May tested the theory and found it successful, reports Rob Chaney in the Missoulian.
