The Coquitlam City Council proposed a bylaw Monday to halt the opening of new tattoo parlors, pawnshops, sex-related businesses and other “undesirable” ventures, reports Anupreet Sandhu Bhamra of the Globe and Mail. The city says the businesses promote drug use and vandalism and discourage family-oriented communities. Local business owners protest that the bylaw feeds on stereotypes and discriminates against people with limited credit who can only get loans at pawnshops.
