Arizona dairy business sours

Rising feed costs and falling milk prices are driving Arizona dairies out of business. Angelique Soenarie, Edythe Jensen and Alia Beard Rau of the Arizona Republic have an analysis of what has caused at least seven dairies to sell their cows for meat or declare bankruptcy this year.  One of those dairies had been in the owner’s  family for a century, and dairy experts are warning additional closures could lead to shortages of locally produced milk in the state.
