Olympic Games to halt criminal trials

Criminal trials in B.C. courts will take a four-week hiatus for the 2010 Winter Olympics, reports Louise Dickson in the Vancouver Sun. Police officers who would normally serve as court witnesses will be occupied providing security at the Olympics. Plans to increase the number of criminal trials in the fall will push back civil and family trials to February, a move some call one of the “hidden costs” of the games.
