At the behest of San Diego’s gay community leaders, California state Rep. Bob Filner (D-Chula Vista) has asked the U.S. Department of Defense and the Marine Corps to investigate whether the murder of gay Seaman August Provost was a hate crime.
Provost’s burned, bullet-ridden body was reported to have been stashed in a guard shack on the base’s outskirts at 3:30 a.m. on  June 30.
